ASSAM CHESS CLUB

Assam Chess Club, a unit of Akshayam, a sports promotion NGO, since its inception in the year 2006 has been regularly promoting the game of chess in the region. The club is credited of holding mega chess event in the state. The first tournament organized by the club in the very first year of its formation was the 1st Asom International Open Rating chess tournament 2006 with a total prize fund of three lakhs twenty five thousand which was the highest ever prize money tournament in the northeast till that time. Later the club organized the RGS International Open rating chess Tournament in 2014 and 2015 with Prize fund of rupees five lakhs each. The club is also credited to have organized the only tournament in the region in a five star hotel (Radisson Blu) with complimentary lunch to all participants in the year 2014. In the year 2019, Assam Chess Club organised the biggest ever International Rating Chess tournament of the North east and one of the biggest event of India with 10 lakhs rupees as Prize money which witness the participation of ver 350 players from 7 countries. Besides the club also provides quality chess coaching to the budding talents of the region. The club has at present three 3 chess learning centers in Guwahati besides running chess programs in 5 major schools of the city. Assam chess Club has a vision of making every child of the region play chess and make chess a part of school curriculum.
